Making a bootable OSX Mavericks USB drive (macrumors.com)

The old method of creating a bootable USB — pull a DMG file out of the installer package and restore it to a USB drive using Disk Utility — seems to have been superceded by this just-as-arcane method which has the added benefit of creating a recovery partition.

UPDATE: DiskMaker X (formerly LionDiskMaker) looks like an excellent, free tool to do the same thing without futzing with the terminal.
